Three papers about online information: systems and methodology

1. Articulated System to Analyse Digital Media (ASADM): a proposal about what and how to study online newspapers
By Lluís Codina, Rafael Pedraza, Javier Díaz Noci, Ruth Rodríguez-Martínez, Mario Pérez-Montoro, Víctor Cavaller-Reyes

Abstract: Throughout this article, we are presenting a proposal to conduct digital media studies as one of the first deliverables of an ongoing research project. This proposal, which we are calling “Articulated System to Analyse Digital Media” (ASADM): consists of a set of concepts presented through specific terminology, and of a group of articulated elements allowing to determine what we call the what (parameters) and how (indicators) of any future study regarding online newspapers or digital media. Thus, we obtain an operative analysis protocol as a deliverable. In between, we characterize the typical context of the sort of studies that constitute the context for our proposal.

2. Channelling academic audiences: proposal for a social network for film studies researchers
By Sandra Martorell Fernández, Fernando Canet, Lluís Codina

Abstract: After suggesting a network devoted to film studies and a series of analyses on related networks, this study aims at specifying both the idiosyncrasy and the architectural and conceptual development of this kind of platforms, in order to revitalize the interactions of highly participative audiences as are those of researchers.

3. Issue networks on the Web: a proposal of components and characterization
By Miguel Castillejo Sierra, Lluís Codina, Carles Pont

Abstract: Many types of research on Social Sciences, Political Sciences and Market Sciences present the need to obtain information about the opinion or public reaction to certain topics. The Web is a source of information which might help satisfying this need, but to achieve this goal it is necessary to develop concepts and methodologies allowing to understand how it works, and to extract the different forms of knowledge it contains. This article presents the concept of “issue network”, and through a theoretical revision of hyperlink studies, the concepts of “issue” and “actor” and the concept of issue network itself, we expose its characteristics, the problems it solves and the possibilities it offers to opinion studies.
