Future Internet Special Issue Information

The future of the web is clearly marked by several confluences, among which there are the social web, the new media and the domain of artificial intelligence, mainly in the form of machine learning. In the near future we will see the growing power of algorithms in society in many dimensions. In this context, digital media and news platforms must adapt their functions to remain relevant as important sources of credible and trusted information for citizens.

In this Special Issue we would like to invite any contributions about what the current web is like and its trends in relation to the important factors mentioned; social networks, new media, machine learning and the growing power of algorithms in social spaces.

Some significant examples include the eruption of artificial intelligence in the newsrooms of news outlets and in digital platforms. As a result, one of most important factors to consider in understanding the future web is the use of machine learning and deep learning for content recommendations to users on social networks and platforms such as YouTube or Facebook.

In this Special Issue we will consider both theoretical and critical contributions, preferably focused (but not limited to) on the field of production, recommendation and dissemination of news and user generated content.
